Best cities for dog owners

Walkable streets, real park systems, outdoor access, and weather that works. Cities where having a dog makes daily life better, not harder.

By Karol Gajda

A dog changes what you need from a city. Walkability matters more because you are out twice a day. Parks matter more because you actually use them. Outdoor access matters more when you have a reason to be outside every single day.

This list weights parks and walkability heavily and keeps a real outdoor-access floor. Weather is the third major factor, because a city where winter cancels outdoor time for four months is harder on dogs and their owners alike.

common questions

What makes a city good for dogs?
Walkability so daily walks are practical, a strong park system for off-leash time, outdoor access for weekend adventures, and weather that keeps both dog and owner comfortable year-round.
Are dog parks scored specifically?
Landable uses TPL ParkScore, which covers overall park quality including access and amenities. Dog parks are not scored separately, but high-ParkScore cities consistently have them.
