Most US cities have a season where outdoor life contracts: too hot in summer, too cold in winter, or both. A small set threads the needle, with weather that stays usable almost every day of the year.

The filter here is strict: at least 260 pleasant days, fewer than 30 days above 95 degrees, and fewer than 10 days below 20 degrees. What is left is a genuinely narrow band of American cities, and every blurb shows all three numbers.

how we ranked

We rank by 50% weather, 20% affordability, 15% parks, 10% walkability, and 5% things to do, filtered to at least 260 pleasant days, no more than 30 extreme heat days, and no more than 10 extreme cold days.

common questions

What is a pleasant day?
A day that is neither too hot (above 86 degrees) nor too cold (below 45 degrees). Landable uses NASA POWER and ERA5 climate data to count these per city.
Why is the list so selective?
The filter is intentionally strict. Very few US cities pair high pleasant-day counts with low extremes on both ends, which is exactly what makes the ones that qualify worth knowing.
