Best cities to live in Florida

No state income tax, year-round warmth, and a lot of options beyond the ones everyone already knows. Florida on the merits.

By Karol Gajda

Florida's pitch is blunt and effective: no state income tax, warm weather year-round, and a housing market that still has pockets of relative value. The state has been absorbing more domestic movers than almost anywhere else in the country.

This list covers every Florida metro in the Landable dataset and ranks by weather, affordability, parks, and quality of life. The cities that rise to the top are not always the ones the brochures lead with.

the ranking

how we ranked

We rank by 30% weather, 25% affordability, 20% parks, 15% things to do, and 10% walkability among Florida cities. Every city in the state carries no state income tax, so the ranking turns on weather, cost, and livability.

common questions

Is Florida really affordable?
Parts of it. Miami and Orlando have seen major rent increases, but mid-size and Gulf Coast Florida metros still have median rents well under the high-cost coastal states.
What about hurricanes?
Landable does not score natural-disaster risk. It is worth weighing separately, especially for the coastal Florida cities.
